San Xavier Mission del Bac

Founded as a Catholic Mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692, construction on the San Xavier mission started in 1783 and was finished in 1797. Today, the church is still used by local community members for religious and historic purposes. Often called the White Dove of the Desert, San Xavier mission is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona and a National Historic Landmark. Built during a time frame when Catholicism was being spread through Indigenous populations in Southwest, an important history is found as it relates form the initial construction to the continual preservation of the Mission.
